About
CHUCOTLAN is an independent art studio based in El Paso, Texas, created by artist Karen Tovar.
Rooted in the Borderlands, CHUCOTLAN explores duality, memory, culture, resilience, and the beauty that grows between places, identities, and generations. Every illustration, painting, and design begins as personal artwork before becoming something that can be worn, displayed, collected, or shared.
The name CHUCOTLAN draws inspiration from "Chuco," the nickname for El Paso, and from the landscapes, people, colors, and stories that define the border region.
Orange llamaradas, desert plants, old murals, neighborhood streets, family memories, and the contrast between softness and strength all influence the work. These pieces are not designed to follow trends. They are created to tell stories.
From wearable art and prints to original paintings and collected curiosities, CHUCOTLAN exists as both a studio and a growing archive of life along the Borderlands.
Thank you for supporting independent art.
